Introduction to Lighting
Light is the most critical element in creative photography. In this course you will learn to see light the way the camera does. Learning to see the way that the camera sees is at the core of creative image making. Exposure metering, color balance and all the other important elements. You will also learn to control light to free yourself to create beautiful images. We will be discussing light in all of it's forms; daylight, on camera flash and studio lighting.

Creative Lighting Techniques - Photographing the Figure
Photograph the figure in the studio. We will cover the technical issues of exposure, contrast, color, etc., as well as techniques to create beautiful light. This is a workshop combining glamour photography with classic figure studies. Much of our time will be spent photographing the models provided. All-inclusive tuition includes the model fees and an additional $25 can be given directly to the model to secure a model release. At the follow-up session all participants are asked to provide the instructor with image files to be given to the models. Since the models are from the LA area you are also free to arrange future photographic sessions on your own.
Two Saturdays, 10am to 6pm
One evening, approx. 30 days later, in studio, 7pm to 10pm

- Fall Color in the Eastern Sierra
Come along on a photographic safari in the Owens Valley along the Eastern edge of the Sierras. We will photograph from Lone Pine up to Lee Vining and possibly into the high country of Yosemite in pursuit of fall color and beautiful landscape. There is so much ground to cover and our final itinerary will be determined on the fly depending on the fall color of the trees. If you enjoy chasing the light and color with a bunch of enthusiastic fellow photographers this is a trip not to be missed. No guarantees of dramatic fall color scenes but we will have a great time. The weekend workshop will begin at 7pm Friday in Lone Pine on Hwy 395 for a casual get-together and end late Sunday afternoon. If we are blessed with great color, who knows, some of us may even wander a bit longer! Carpooling can be arranged and is encouraged. Motel info will be provided or you are free to camp. Tuition does not include lodging, meals or transportation cost. The weekend will be followed later with an evening critique session at the studio to share the images.
The Figure in the Landscape
Classic figure photography among amazing rock formations. No feather boas, no lingerie, no whips, no chains, just a photographic safari to worship the female form in the natural beauty of the landscape. Most of our time will be spent photographing the models provided. Evenings will be spent sharing images (if you bring your portfolio) and technical discussions. Location details, including lodging or camping, will be provided upon registering. The location is about 200 miles north of Los Angeles and about a 3.5 hour drive. Carpooling can be arranged and is encouraged. The weekend workshop will begin at 8pm Friday for a casual get-together and end late Sunday afternoon. Landscape Photography-Photographing Death Valley
Come along on a photographic safari to Death Valley. Learn the creative techniques needed to capture beautiful landscape images. We will discuss all aspects of image creation from the technical issues of exposure and lenses through composition and lighting. Time in the mornings and late afternoons will be spent photographing in the field, that is when the light is best. Mid-day will be spent in a classroom environment.
The instructor (Rick Rosen) has been photographing in the Mojave around Death Valley for over thirty years so he knows all the great spots and when to be there for the best light. The weekend workshop will begin at 8pm Friday for a casual get-together and end late Sunday afternoon. Carpooling can be arranged and is encouraged. This week course if designed for beginning and intermediate level digital photographers, this course will teach participants how to become fluent with their digital Discussion will cover all basic operations of your camera, how to control and manage the photograph's final look. Course will include composition and light, how to control shutter speeds to get the desired result, ISO and the best ones to use for your objective, and how to use the camera's light meter to provide the best exposure. We will also discuss lenses for specific results, white balance and much more.

Creative Lighting Techniques with Small On - Camera Flash Units.
Learn to use your on-camera flash. How the flash communicates with your camera. The science of TTL auto exposure and how to use it creatively. When to use manual flash exposure. How to use your camera's flash unit off-camera for beautiful lighting techniques for portraits and still life images. With modern digital camera systems you don't need expensive studio lighting equipment to do beautiful images. We will be shooting still life and models outdoors. Come and learn!

How to Start and Succeed at Wedding Photography
Wedding photography can be a great way to "turn pro" or just earn a little extra to buy that lens you want. Either way, you need to understand both the business and the creative side of wedding photography. This course will help you to enter this field or grow your existing business. We will discuss every aspect of the business. From pricing your services, marketing, branding, building referrals you will learn how to stand out in this field. We will also discuss the technical issues of shooting, exposure, how to handle creative challenges and everything else you will come up against. Come along and quick start your career in wedding photography. The instructor (Rick Rosen) has been photographing weddings for twenty years and is in a position to guide you.

Creative portrait and glamour using professional studio lighting

PHOTOSHOP: BASIC AND ADVANCED
This course will familiarize you with the Photoshop environment.
Learn about Resolution, File sizes, Bit depth, Layers, Channels, Effects filters, Blend modes, Masking and more. In addition, learn how to work with a Graphic Tablet and Stylus instead of a mouse, and how to access files through the "Bridge Browser". We will also discuss the best ways to select an object in a photo.
Workshop fee: $75
In this course you will learn how to enhance images, using powerful Photoshop filters to achieve a variety of eye-popping effects. In the Camera Raw plug in window, you will learn how to adjust the tonal range and temperature variations of your images, and how to restore blown out photos, (Please let us know if you shoot in Camera Raw or Jpg mode). You will get hands on experience on how to Mask an object on a layer to isolate it before applying effects. Learn how to use the Smart Objects option. How to adjust their Layer effects using blend modes. In addition, you will learn how isolate an object from one image and strip it onto another. You will also learn how to do invisible retouching, restoring and cloning.
